1. General Situation:

Brunei Darussalam is currently towards the end of Southwest Monsoon period where we would normally experience generally fair weather in the morning and showers in the afternoon and at night as well as occurrence of occasional squally showers.

As of 5.45 am local time today, Typhoon Hinnamnor was observed at 29.2°N 124.7°E, over East China Sea, approximately 2935 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 1).

2. Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation:

Typhoon Hinnamnor will influence our weather indirectly.

However, development of a low pressure system near our country will result in unstable and moist atmospheric conditions which is favourable for the development of rain clouds.

Active weather conditions are expected from Thursday until Sunday (8 September 2022 until 11 September 2022). Occasional showers or thundershowers are expected especially in the afternoon and may persist through the night. Rainy condition may last until early morning. Showers can be heavy and gusty at times with wind speed may increase up to 40 km/h.

Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally slight, at 0.6 to moderate at 1.2 m.

3. Our Advice:

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during heavy rain and also during high tide. Risk of landslide and falling trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition.
